Ernest L. Bowling is in solo private practice at George Gruver Optical in Gadsden, Alabama. He received his Doctor of Optometry and Master of Science in Physiological Optics degrees from the UAB School of Optometry. Dr. Bowling is a Diplomate in the Primary Care Section of the American Academy of Optometry. The author of over 100 professional publications, he is the Chief Optometric Editor of Optometry Times, a leading optometric newsmagazine, as well as Associate Clinical Editor of Review of Cornea & Contact Lenses and serves on the editorial board of Optometric Management, Contemporary Optometry, Refractive Eyecare and Review of Optometry journals. He is the former editor of Optometric Management’s monthly internet newsletter Managing Dry Eye. A former Associate Professor and Director of the Primary Care Service at the UAB School of Optometry, he was voted outstanding clinical educator by the American Optometric Student Association. Dr. Bowling is a past recipient of the Georgia Optometric Association’s Bernard Kahn Memorial Award for outstanding service to the optometric profession.
